Looking for delicious vegan sandwich recipes? Then you've come to the right place! With a good sandwich you can quickly fight hunger in between or even replace a complete meal. But what actually goes on the bread when you eat a plant-based diet?
On the sandwich, for example, a tasty spread, lots of vegetables, possibly tempeh, chickpeas or seitan. In the best case, add a few sprouts to increase the nutrient content. Sandwiches are especially good for on the go, because you can easily prepare them and take them with you.
Here I present you now my favorite vegan sandwich recipes. At the end of the article I also have a "build your own sandwich kit", so you can easily create your own plant-based sandwiches.

My 4 favorite vegan sandwich recipes
I have for you three hearty vegan sandwich recipes and another sweet recipe. So hopefully there is something for everyone.
By the way, the sandwich recipes are deliberately without quantities, because of course it depends on the size of your hunger, whether you need more or less ingredients.
1. the Italian
- Large ciabatta or focaccia
- Thick cashew cream with salt and pepper (tip: when you make the cashew cream, start with as little water as possible first and then add more as needed).
- Arugula
- Tomato slices
- Sliced smoked tofu, briefly fried in olive oil
- Cucumber slices
- Sprouts (broccoli, alfalfa, flaxseed, cress, radish sprouts or other sprouts of your choice).
- Salt, pepper and a mixture of Mediterranean herbs
If you don't have much time, you can also just put the smoked tofu raw on the sandwich. To save time, you can also use cashew puree or almond paste instead of cashew cream. The Italian is one of my favorite sandwich recipes.
2. the Greek
- Rustic bun
- Homemade tzatziki- the night before put some soy yogurt in a bowl and chop 1-2 cloves of garlic and a small piece of cucumber and mix it in
- Bell pepper strips
- Olives
- Red onion, cut into rings
- Sautéed tempeh, cut into cubes
The Greek is a particularly delicious vegan sandwich recipe. You should definitely let the tzatziki soak overnight, so that the garlic flavor spreads nicely. It's best to make a little more right away, because the vegan tzatziki is really delicious!
If you're in a hurry, you can just use olive paste instead of tzatziki. Olive paste in a jar you probably get
in every supermarket.
3. the oriental
- Pita bread
- Hummus
- Salad
- Tomato slices
- Grilled eggplant slices (season with a small a little salt, pepper and curry powder)
- Caraway, salt and pepper
The Oriental combines flavors from the Orient. Fresh pita bread, hummus, cumin and grilled eggplant slices are the basis for a particularly delicious sandwich.
4. the sweet
Sweet vegan sandwich recipe is suitable for breakfast, as a dessert or hunger in between. The sandwich makes super full, so you will certainly not go hungry in the next few hours.
- Toast or a neutral bread or roll
- Natural Peanut butter* or Almond paste*
- Dates and bananas
You can of course use other dried fruits of your choice, such as. dried strawberry slices or dried apple rings.
"Build your own vegan sandwich" in 4 steps
If you're not in the mood for a pre-made vegan sandwich recipe, here's some more inspiration for individual sandwiches. In four steps you can make the perfect sandwich.
1. the bread
For example, you can choose ciabatta, flatbread, baguette, bread, rolls or toast. But make sure at the bakery that it is not topped with cheese.
2. the spread
Hummus is always a good option, alternatively you can opt for homemade tzatziki, vegan cream cheese, guacamole, nut puree, tahini, mustard, olive paste, margarine or a ready-made spread. By the way, not all margarine is vegan.
3. the coating
By default, the topping for me is veggies and tempeh or tofu. But you can also use seitan or vegan cheese alternatives or vegan sausage alternatives.
For vegetables, I like to use cucumbers, tomatoes, thinly sliced carrots, peppers, olives, arugula, beet or lettuce. But you can also use something fancier and top your sandwich with sauerkraut, broccoli or sautéed mushrooms.
4. the extra toppings
With the extras, you can basically put anything on your sandwich. With the toppings, I always like to spice up the sandwich a bit. You can do that with sprouts, avocado, chickpeas or beans.
Vegan sandwich recipes - quick, easy & delicious!
So, I hope I could inspire you a little bit and you know now what goes on a vegan slice. Of course my vegan sandwich recipes are not set in stone and you can omit, add or replace one or the other. Because in my opinion recipes are only for inspiration and should be modified according to personal taste.
