So as you can see, the use of citric acid is very useful. Therefore, I would like to give you today 8 great tips on the way, how you can make many useful things for household and care with citric acid itself. Plus, I'll explain where you can get citric acid plastic-free. Let's go!
Here is another short Table of contents for you:

What is citric acid?

Citric acid, sometimes spelled citric acid, was first extracted from lemon juice 200 years ago by Carl Wilhelm Scheele. To do this, the fruit was squeezed and the acid isolated in a tricky process. The process was extremely expensive. For this reason, the acid was not widely used. Only later were other processes discovered that were much cheaper. The white acid is in powder form and is considered a so-called carboxylic acid. It can be used for many things, both in the household and for personal care.

The correct handling of citric acid

Citric acid is a natural product, but it is still an acid. Therefore, you should be careful that it does not get into your eyes. Also, keep in mind that it can damage tooth enamel in the long run. The right dosage plays an important role, as with all other acidic agents. If you are careful with citric acid, however, there should be no problems.

The 8 best citric acid applications

Now, here I'm going to show you 8 ways to use citric acid in your plastic-free everyday life can apply.

Use citric acid for descaling

If you have problems with lime at home, then try it with citric acid! Simply dissolve a little citric acid in water and use the mixture in the bathroom and kitchen. You can also use citric acid for appliances such as a kettle. Just make sure that electronic devices have already cooled down. This is because heat causes the acid to dissolve into a poorly soluble calcium citrate.

Citric acid as a practical cleaner

Want a natural all-purpose cleaner instead of all those expensive household chemicals? Then try it with a cleaner made from citric acid! In addition to citric acid, all you need is a simple household vinegar (be careful not to confuse it with vinegar essence!). Mix one teaspoon of citric acid per 100 ml of vinegar. Ready is the practical cleaner! By the way, the whole thing also works with lemon peels, but you have to wait a little longer for that. Put the peeled lemon peels in a jar and fill up with household vinegar so that the peels are completely covered. Let the mixture sit for 2-3 weeks before using it. You'll have to wait longer, but the cleaner will have a much stronger effect. A great method in the sense of Zero Waste Lifestyle.
Tip: Check also the article about Soda applications because baking soda is also a wonderful, versatile alternative for cleaning or for many other household applications.

Removal of yellow stains from white T-shirts

Have you ever had problems with yellow stains in the armpit area? They are super easy to remove with citric acid. Dissolve about 15 grams of citric acid per shirt in one liter of warm (not hot) water. Soak your shirt in the solution for about four hours. The citric acid is an effective remedy against the stains. Without drying it first, put the T-shirt in the washing machine. And voilà, the stains are gone.

Citric acid for boiling down

Citric acid or even lemon juice is often used for canning. It serves as a preservative and provides a great taste. Try it out, it works perfectly.

Make sherbet powder with citric acid

Effervescent powder is very popular, especially among children. How about making sherbet powder simply at home? It's very easy to do. Just take 10 teaspoons of baking soda, 15 teaspoons of citric acid and 2-4 teaspoons of sugar (even better birch sugar). Mix well and the sherbet powder is ready. Per glass Water you can then dissolve a teaspoon of the mixture. Let yourself taste it.

Lemon apple mask

Lemon powder is also totally great for making skincare products! I am a huge fan of DIY care products. Not only do you save a lot of plastic packaging, it's also better for your skin because you don't use unnecessary chemicals and microplastics. For a homemade lemon apple mask you only need three things:

First grate the apple, then simply add the curd and citric acid. That's how quickly the DIY mask is ready! After you have applied the mask to the face, let it soak in for 10-20 minutes. Then wash it off with warm water. Regular applications will ensure soft skin. Keep in mind that the ingredients are fresh and the mixture will last only 2-3 days in the refrigerator. It is best to always prepare it fresh. Tip: Alternatively, you can use the DIY Blog learn how to make a Make face scrub yourself simply by following your heart.

Fighting dark circles with citric acid

Do you ever look in the mirror when you wake up in the morning and wonder how to get rid of your dark circles? Before you run to the nearest drugstore and buy a totally overpriced and plastic-packed cream, try this cool tip first. You only need two ingredients: Citric acid and olive oil! Mix together olive oil and citric acid in an approximate 1:1 ratio. Lemon juice works just as well. Apply the mixture to your dark circles and let it soak in briefly before carefully rinsing it off. Be careful not to get anything in your eyes, only on the skin underneath. If you use this tip daily, your dark circles should be noticeably reduced within a week or two.

DIY hair treatment with citric acid

And here's another DIY care product that you can make super-easy: A DIY hair treatment. All you need is the following:

Mix the green tea with the low-fat curd. Then add a few drops of almond or olive oil. Finally, add the citric acid and mix well again. The homemade hair treatment is ready.

  1. Another scouring agent tip with citric acid, notmalls goes also cheap ascorbic acid powder.... some mud chalk on cleaning sponge, knife point full acid powder in addition and with it the calcified sink rub out! Better and healthier than any Ata or homemade cleaner with soda.
